Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Your GP at DOT is the ideal person to continue caring for you and your growing family.  After your positive pregnancy test, check in with your GP to work through the next steps.

Your pregnancy care choices at DOT

If you would like to use the Queensland Health public system and have your baby at SCUH, there are a few different models of care, including:

  • Midwife care through the community outreach midwifery clinic at Noosa Community Health (Bottlebrush Ave)
  • Onsite at SCUH
  • MGP (Midwifery Group Practice)

OR you can choose GP shared care and have the majority of your pregnancy care at DOT with your GP and Jo Rymer, our own midwife with over 30 years experience (though she only looks 35!).

At your initial booking in visit at SCUH or Nambour, you will receive information about the different models of care, including GP Shared Care.

If you have private health cover, your obstetrician of choice will generally look after most of your pregnancy care and will be present for the birth.  Your GP can provide you with a referral.

What is GP shared care?

GP shared care is an arrangement between a GP and the birthing hospital.  Following your first booking in visit with a midwife (SCUH or Nambour), you will then be booked in 1-4 weeks later to see an Obstetrician at SCUH.  If you are eligible for GP shared care you normally don’t go back to SCUH to see a Midwife or Obstetrician until 36 and 40 weeks gestation.  The rest of your pregnancy care is provided by your GP Shared Care provider.

If you choose GP Shared Care, SCUH will send you a ‘hand held’ booklet of information relating to care.  Each of your pregnancy visits should be recorded in this booklet.  This information is shared between your GP and care providers at SCUH.  It is important that you take this booklet to all your appointments.
